FIRSTLY A SPECIAL ADVERT / OPPORTUNITY FROM
KERALA
Current October 2010
DO YOU KNOW ANY ANIMAL LOVERS/ORGANISATIONS
WHO WOULD LIKE A CHALLENGE…..IN INDIA ?

Owing to
serious illness, Animal Rescue Kerala, ARK, is looking for a group to
take over the running and financing of its centre based near Kovalam, Kerala.
Animal Rescue Kerala was set up over 8 years ago to implement the
Animal
birth control/anti rabies programme (ABC/AR), however it also has a hospital
which treats any sick or injured stray dogs, as well as offering a reduced
rate/free service to pets (dependant upon owner's circumstances).
The centre’s site encompasses approximately one and a half acres,
within a
walled compound. Half of the area is developed; with a purpose-built hospital,
education centre, puppy house, cattery and kennelling. Approximately 200
animals - dogs, cats, puppies and kittens can be housed at any one time. The
undeveloped land, also walled, is currently used as an area for dogs to run
and play. This area would lend itself to be further developed perhaps
for staff accommodation or further kennelling.
My mother,
Avis Lyons, who currently runs and finances ARK, is suffering
from cancer and, because of this, she is looking for a like-minded organisation
to take over the running of the centre (this needs to be done by
the end of 2010).
As there is currently no other active group in the area the service ARK offers
is desperately needed.
The centre is on a 30 year lease from my mother to the Animal Rescue
Kerala
charitable trust, this lease will be passed over, free of charge, to the new
management with provision that the lease be renewed prior to expiry,
however the centre must continue to be run the ABC/AR programme and to
treat animals with compassion and empathy.
The centre currently costs £1,000 (GBP) to run each month, which
equates to
approx Rs.80,000 (INR); this funding will need to be met by the new management.

YEAR 2007 |

The C.S.I. Christ
Church - Trivandrum's Harvest Festival traditionally takes place on Advent
Sunday - This year on 2rd December 2007. Outside the church
three marquees are erected, which were also full for the service, and
after breakfast the auction starts for items which the congregation have
brought. A break takes
place for lunch - I had vegetable curry and rice -
again at 20 rupees, and then the auction continues. I hope that these pictures from 2006 / 2007 manage to convey some of the enjoyable atmosphere. In
2006 the
event raised over 9 lakh rupees for church funds and its projects
- around: £11,000. or $21.000. All
pictures without a date were taken in 2006 |
