"Hawker" created by Mick Burns
Scotland's Mick Burns was the winner of the
4th English International Open Chainsaw Wood Carving Championships
held at The Tatton Park Country Show.
The Hampshire Festival of
Wood was held during June in the grounds of
Broadlands - Romsey. It proved to be an exciting "warm-up" to the
English Open Chainsaw Carving Competition held at Royal Sandringham - King's
Lynn during September.
Seventeen Chainsaw Carvers had two days over which to complete
their entries, judged on the Sunday afternoon by Simon and Paula Bellfield from
the Welsh Wood Fest and the Broadlands Forestry consultant Robin Hard.
Chainsaws of popular choice were five from the ten in the Echo range and
visitors were also thrilled by "The Speed Chainsaw Carving" events.
The Chainsaw Carvers generously donated 50% of the proceeds from the auction of
their entries to Leukaemia Research.
Dave was the competition commentator and auctioneer so why don't you take a look
at the pictures below and see if you can pick the winners.
To give you some idea of size, the average height of
a chainsaw carving was about 7ft.
For the winners of this
event and also of the "English Open Chainsaw Carving Competition"
please follow "The Winners" link below.
THE PICTURES DON'T TELL THE FULL STORY........YOU HAVE TO WALK ROUND TO SEE THE INTRICATE DETAILS ON ALL SIDES OF THE CARVINGS AND APPRECIATE THE TRUE
COLOURED WOOD GRAIN TEXTURED FINISHES ACHIEVED BY THE CHAINSAW CARVERS.
